Developing a Quality Life in Cedar County, Iowa

Harvesting a Bring Idea

Farmers, business owners, and homeowners interested in going solar will have an opportunity to hear answers to common questions and see solar technology in action at a Solar Energy Fair on Saturday, September 17th from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on the Cedar County Courthouse lawn, Tipton, Iowa. The fair is designed to be a “one-stop-shop” for people considering solar PV for electricity production.

In the morning, there will be a vendor expo beginning at 9 a.m., a solar energy technology presentation at 10 a.m. and a finance presentation at 11 a.m. Pre-registration is free and encouraged online at www.pathfindersrcd.org/solarenergy. The fair will feature vendors and presentations on the basics of solar electric technology, questions to consider when planning a project, examples of how to finance projects, and expo area with local solar energy and related booths.

In the afternoon, go on a virtual solar energy “crawl” and see multiple locations already utilizing solar power, including Cedar County Sheriff's Office and Jail and Bennett Community Schools. Find out how it’s working for them! “Solar Crawl” participants may also use this time to ask any additional questions they may have with the local solar vendors who installed solar for these locations.

Why consider solar energy? “Now is a great time to consider solar, because prices have dropped significantly in the last few years and tax incentives are available. When the economics of environmental stewardship work in the short-term, positive long-term impacts will be seen by future generations. Solar technology can be great for both your pocketbook and the planet,” says Solar Energy Fair coordinator Jacob Benson.

The event is free, open to the public, and very family friendly. Morning refreshments and lunch for those going on the “Solar Crawl” will be provided. There also will be magic tricks for kids of all ages to enjoy!

The Solar Energy Fair is part of a series of fairs hosted at four locations around Iowa. The Solar Energy Fairs are made possible with funding from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources REAP Continuing Education Program (CEP) and with support from Limestone Bluffs RCD, Southern Iowa RCD, Iowa Heartland RCD and Pathfinders RCD.
